Kapelle, August 2025 – Opcharge has won the tender of the municipality of Kapelle for the installation and management of new public charging points for electric vehicles. Over the next three years, Opcharge, together with two other charging point operators, will install up to 200 new public charging points.

Contribution to Kapelle’s sustainability goals
With the expansion of the charging network, the municipality of Kapelle wants to respond to the growing demand for charging infrastructure while contributing to its climate and sustainability ambitions.
“We are extremely happy to win this tender and that together we can contribute to the sustainability goals of the municipality of Kapelle,” said Cyriel van Bree, CEO of Opcharge. “With our smart charging technology, simple payment options and customized solutions, we want to make electric driving easy and affordable for everyone.”
Smart charging: more efficient and cheaper
In the design and implementation of this project, grid congestion – the overloading of the electricity grid – was explicitly taken into account. Because grid congestion takes time, Opcharge is betting on smart charging: automatically matching charging sessions to the current grid load or power price.
This means that load capacity can be temporarily reduced at busy times, such as during the evening peak, and instead increased when green power is plentiful.
Moreover, thanks to the smart charging algorithm, charging is done automatically at times when the power price is lowest. These prices are based on the EPEX day-ahead market. Electric drivers do not notice this, but benefit from lower costs and a higher use of renewable energy.
Benefits for electric drivers in Kapelle
- Lower charging costs by charging at favorable price points
- Greater use of green energy thanks to coupling with solar and wind supply
- Reliable network through more efficient use of the power grid
- Easy payment options for all users
With this tender, Kapelle is taking a big step toward a future-proof, sustainable and accessible charging network for its residents and visitors.
