What is a semi-public charging station?
Semi public charging stations are located on private property, but are also accessible to the public. These include charging stations in parking lots of businesses, shopping centers, apartment buildings, hotels and the like. These charging stations are not always available to the general public 24/7, as they are often reserved during certain hours for employees, residents or customers of that particular location. The parking lot of the particular location with semi-public charging stations may also close in the evening hours.

Terms of the municipality
Semi-public charging stations must be publicly accessible for at least 10 hours a day, including weekends. In addition, semi-public charging points must be clearly marked, for example with markings or signs, so that it is clear that they are intended for charging electric vehicles. For buildings that are not zoned for residential use and have more than 10 on-site parking spaces, a charging point and the necessary infrastructure for charging must be installed at least at 20% of these spaces. In addition, existing buildings with a parking capacity of more than 20 spaces must have at least one charging point as of Jan. 1, 2025. Other conditions may apply per municipality regarding public charging points.

Application and location determination?
You can easily request a semi-public charging station from Opcharge through our website. Fill out our online form and express your needs and requirements. Then, our team will start preparing and take action. Part of the online form, is to designate a desired location. As the applicant, you indicate a desired location for the charge point. Together with the relevant municipality, we verify that this location meets the specific municipal criteria. If approved, we move on to the next phase of the application process.

A big part of our service is taking care of our clients. After site approval, our installers get to work. During installation, you don’t have to worry about anything. All we ask is that you grant access to our installation team.
