First sharing car charging location in Eindhoven
Since this week, the first charging location with an electric shared car in Eindhoven can be found in the Keizerstraat. The Dutch companies Opcharge and Greenwheels are joining forces to further enable electric driving in the city center. With the charging location, Eindhoven is taking a new step in energy transition. In Prinsenhof, a second electric shared car will soon be installed.
From 2030, no more gasoline or diesel cars may be sold in the Netherlands. The advance of electric cars is unstoppable. Opcharge contributes to accelerating the growth of the number of charging stations in public spaces with charging points directly connected to the public network. Greenwheels has been active in Eindhoven since 2000 and has been reducing the number of private cars on the streets for years. The company is also working to reduce its CO2 emissions, including by expanding the number of electric shared cars.
Transition
Pieter Haans and Freddy van Nispen, founders of the 100% Dutch Opcharge: ‘We are pleased that together with Greenwheels we can also contribute in Eindhoven with our charging stations. We know the dynamic world of charging solutions and were able to provide customized solutions here thanks to a good personal contact with the municipality and Greenwheels.’ The Netherlands is aiming for 500,000 charging stations, with 1 million charging points, by the year 2025. To reach that number with the current charging stations and pace, it is necessary to install over 200 charging stations per day.
Huge growth
The demand for station-based shared transport also continues to grow in Eindhoven. Last year, the number of users in Eindhoven increased by a whopping 39%. This makes the municipality one of the strongest rising cities in terms of Greenwheels users. With the recent addition of eight shared cars and the addition of the two electric cars, there are now 40 in the city. Greenwheels director Andrew Berkhout is pleased with this step and the good cooperation with Opcharge and the municipality of Eindhoven: “As the founder of car sharing in the Netherlands, we help municipalities make cities more livable. By making shared transport more attractive and accessible, we bring CO2 emissions down even further.”
