As of April 1, Opcharge will take over 150 Arnhem public charging points for electric transport. These charging stations were part of the first tender for charging stations in the Netherlands in 2013. The ten-year concession has now ended. Opcharge won the new tender and now takes over management of these charging stations and will also modernize the charging stations.

Ready for the future

There are currently about 1,200 public charging points for electric cars in Arnhem. The municipality of Arnhem is now transferring 150 public charging points to the Dutch company Opcharge. Opcharge will take over the charging points as of April and will subsequently replace them with modern charging stations that are ready for the future. They will be suitable for two-way charging and ‘plug & charge’ where the car can charge directly for connected users without the need for a charging card. This will allow Arnhem users to charge again for years to come. The power for the electric cars at the Opcharge poles comes 100 percent from Dutch green sources.

Happy to contribute in Arnhem

Pieter Haans and Freddy Nispen, founders of the 100 percent Dutch Opcharge: “We are pleased that we can also contribute to electric driving in the Municipality of Arnhem with our charging stations. We know the dynamic world of charging solutions well and can deliver customized solutions here thanks to our direct local approach. We are in the starting blocks to take over the existing poles and get Arnhem on the road for the future.’

Charging poles double

Nermina Kundić, alderman for sustainable mobility: ‘In Arnhem we want to encourage sustainable transport. Not for nothing do we want to double the number of public charging points from 1,200 to 2,400 in the coming years. This step fits in perfectly with that. From 2030, no new gasoline or diesel cars will be sold in the Netherlands. So the advance of electric cars is in full swing. Sustainable mobility is anyway one of Arnhem’s strengths. It started with the trolley, which has been part of the streetscape since 1949. There are also many innovative companies located here that focus on sustainable mobility.’
